The Perioperative Registered Nurse provides optimum direct and indirect nursing care to patients in the center according to physicians' orders, nursing standards, and the policies and procedures of the center.  This position also supervises LPNs, Patient Care Assistants and Surgical Assistants, interacts with the centers' front office staff, and communicates with surgeons and their staff.  There may also be an opportunity for more hours to be picked up.


  • Familiar with and follows policies and procedures of the center.
  • Provides optimum care to patients before, during, and after surgery which includes assessment, preparation, intervention, and evaluation while maintaining patient privacy.
  • Apply knowledge, skills and interpersonal competencies to provide quality, individualized patient care, including monitoring physiologic and psychological status.
  • Works with patients to make decisions regarding the patient’s needs and to assist and support the patient.
  • Interacts with both the patient and/or the patients’ significant others throughout the continuum of patient care, including patient/family teaching.
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient medical records; properly identifies patient and verifies surgical site with operative consent and patient history.
  • Adheres to principals of asepsis.
  • Maintains safe environment to prevent patient injury including proper patient positioning.
  • Assists in cleaning, maintaining, operating, testing, and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of medications and supplies.
  • Administers medications, inserts IV’s and provides other therapeutic and diagnostic measures safely and accurately.
  • Communicates pertinent information and seeks assistance and/or consultation of physicians or other staff as needed.
  • Participates in staff orientation, in-services, and meetings as requested.
  • Participates in quality management program.
  • Handles instruments, tissue specimens, and cultures properly.
  • Supervises ancillary personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Current, active license from the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support mandatory.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred.
